Tyler Guyton: The Dallas Cowboys’ Promising Rookie Ready to Shine
As the Dallas Cowboys gear up for the upcoming season, all eyes are on their newly drafted left tackle, Tyler Guyton. Selected 29th overall in the first round, Guyton has quickly become a player to watch. His blend of intelligence, confidence, and athleticism has already set him apart from his peers, both on and off the field.
Standing tall at 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 330 pounds, Guyton possesses a rare combination of size and agility. "It's not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330 and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes," said left guard Tyler Smith. "The sky truly is the limit for him and his development."
Guyton, a product of the University of Oklahoma, made a significant impact during his collegiate career, starting 13 of 14 games at right tackle. His transition to the pros has been seamless, as he has demonstrated exceptional skill at left tackle during the Cowboys’ training camp. His performance in padded practices has been particularly noteworthy, including a standout moment where he managed to stonewall star linebacker Micah Parsons. "I thought he had some nice reps against Micah," head coach Mike McCarthy remarked.
The rookie's rapid adaptation to the Cowboys' system has been aided by his intelligence and mental acuity. During a team jeopardy night, Guyton impressed his teammates and coaches with his quick thinking. "The dude jumped up there and spelled it as fast without any hesitation as I have ever seen. Still mind blown to be honest with you," said quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott further praised Guyton’s ability to absorb complex plays and execute them flawlessly. "His intelligence and confidence for sure. It's showing on the field, too. The guy has picked up everything we have thrown at him... He comes back with the same mindset and does win it that time," Prescott added.
Guyton’s development has also been bolstered by the guidance of Tyler Smith, who has taken on a mentoring role. "He's helped me out a lot. He's like a big brother to me," Guyton said. Both players share more than just the field; they also share Texan roots, which has helped forge a strong bond between them.
Off the field, Guyton has embraced the team's culture with enthusiasm. He participated in a rookie karaoke session, delivering a memorable performance of Rick James' "Mary Jane." "It's a song that everybody knows is groovy and that would work," Guyton explained.
However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Guyton faced a setback when an illness caused him to miss three consecutive practices. Upon his return, he participated in a limited capacity but remained optimistic about his recovery. "I'm feeling better, for sure. I'm just under the weather, working my way back now," he said.
As Guyton steps into the shoes of his predecessor, Tyron Smith, the expectations are high. Yet, Dak Prescott believes that the key to Guyton’s success lies in his authenticity. "He has to be Tyler Guyton. Doesn't really matter who played here before him... At the end of the day, you just need to be yourself and the best version of yourself," Prescott asserted.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys have a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, a crucial test for Guyton and the team. With his unique blend of skills and the unwavering support of his teammates, Tyler Guyton is poised to make a significant impact on the Cowboys' offensive line. As Micah Parsons puts it, "Of course it did. We're both getting each other better... Going up against him, even losing, helps me out."
The upcoming season holds promise for the Dallas Cowboys, and Tyler Guyton is undoubtedly a key part of that future. As the rookie continues to develop, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely, eager to see how his journey unfolds.
